Girls in Manchester got their first Girl Scout experience thanks to the volunteers who stepped up to form a new Daisy troop for kindergartners and first graders. (Courtesy photo)
BEDFORD, NH – They lead Girl Scout troops. They coordinate cookie deliveries. They teach girls essential life skills and mentor them as they gain leadership skills. They are the volunteers who make everything possible for Girl Scouts throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, and Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains is marking their enormous contributions during April, Volunteer Appreciation Month.
The past year has been one of uncertainty and disruption to everyone’s normal routines. That includes Girl Scout activities. Fortunately, many of our volunteers have stepped up and kept their Girl Scouts active in virtual troops, with outdoor activities, on Zoom, and other ways. ....

Easter goodies delivered to HHA
The children at the Hinesville Housing Authority at Regency Place were treated to baskets full of Easter goodies handed out by the United Way of Coastal Georgia, Liberty Branch.
UWCE, Liberty Branch Director Kristin Hopkins-Graham said the deliveries was the first of several other initiatives they plan to hold during Volunteer Appreciation Month.
Hopkins-Graham said items were donated from Target, the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and several private donors. They managed to deliver 50 baskets to kids in the HHA community. ....

Woodlands County Council discussed the following items at their recent meeting of Council:
Sgt. R.W. Dodds joined Council remotely to provide an update on police activity in Woodlands County, which included a review of crime statistics that indicates a decrease in persons crimes (assaults, uttering threats).
Sgt. Dodds noted Barrhead RCMP is seeking input from the communities they serve on the priorities the RCMP should focus on over the coming year. “Visibility of Police” is historically requested, and they anticipate it to be a priority again. In addition, “Drug Enforcement” is a recommended priority that focuses on drug related crime, theft, and violence, all enhanced by drug use. The detachment is connecting with its other municipalities and reaching out to the public through BARCC for further input. ....

First recipient chosen for South Stormont Youth Volunteer of the Year Award

LONG SAULT One South Stormont teen is being recognized asthe youth volunteer of the year for 2019. It was the first time the award was presented.
“I love helping when I can,” said winner Alexa Zummach.

First recipient chosen for South Stormont Youth Volunteer of the Year Award Back to video
Zummach was presented the award by South Stormont Mayor Brian McGillis, and was chosen by the Volunteer Appreciation Committee.
“We’re so fortunate to have some incredible young people in our community,” McGillis said in a press release. “The Youth Volunteer of the Year Award is an opportunity to recognize their efforts to improve our community, and Ms. Zummach was the perfect selection as the award’s first recipient.” ....
