Bass Coast Shire Council will carry out drainage renewal works along Foreshore Road in Jam Jerrup in August.
Work is expected to begin in early August and take around four weeks to complete, subject to favourable weather conditions.
This $70,000 project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Capital Funding Program 2019/2020.
This project is part of a partnership with Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and Council. The Department has recently completed seawall protection works at Jam Jerrup.
The aim of this project is to minimise stormwater runoff flowing across the newly constructed seawall embankments and to improve the quality of road stormwater runoff and direct the stormwater flow along Foreshore Road, to discharge at the outfall. ....

DEC updating rules for wildlife management areas

ALBANY â The state Department of Environmental Conservation last month released a draft proposal for public comment that would update regulations governing public use of the stateâs vast network of 120 Wildlife Management Areas.
There are 15 WMAs in DEC Region 5, which covers the eastern north country. The closest ones to the Tri-Lakes area are Pauline Murdock in Elizabethtown, AuSable Marsh and Wickham Marsh near Port Kent, and Chazy Highlands in Dannemora.
DEC is accepting public comments on the draft proposal until May 24.
DEC is proposing to update and clarify existing regulations defining the allowable activities and uses of WMAs. The proposals continue to prioritize activities that include hunting, fishing, trapping and wildlife viewing. Among other proposed updates, the draft regulations would: ....

Surf Coast Distinctive Areas and Landscapes project submission
On Tuesday night council will consider its submission to the state government’s draft Statement of Planning Policy and proposed landscape controls as part of the Surf Coast Distinctive Areas and Landscapes project.
The Surf Coast Shire was declared a Distinctive Area and Landscape in September 2019. The objective of the state government project is to ensure long-term protection of the declared area’s unique coastal environments, cultural heritage, natural resources and townships.
The project is consistent with council’s Council Plan objectives of determining more permanent settlement boundaries for Torquay and environmental leadership. ....
