For my Feels Good story on my show today, I mentioned this local Chicago bakery that is helping adults with autism. I love what they re doing and wanted to highlight it here:
Unique Sweets, a bakery based on Chicago s Northwest Side, helps young adults with Autism develop work and social skills by baking, managing the kitchen and selling their baked goods.
Founder Liza Curiel started Unique Sweets from her kitchen in 2018 to help her son Sebastian, who has Autism, bridge the gap between school and the working world.
The bakery is a social enterprise organization run completely by volunteers. Each baker and employee gets a stipend from the baked goods they sell. ....

Former teacher serving up sweet treats at new coffee kiosk in Colorado Springs

“I always wanted to own a coffee shop,” she said.
She is making all the usual espresso and specialty drinks with locally roasted Spanish Peaks coffee. She also has breakfast croissants, lunch paninis and fresh baked goods such as cookies, muffins and brownies.
“My specialty gourmet stuffed cookies and brownies are by far the most popular,” she said.
Think stuffed salted caramel with pretzel and dark chocolate and stuffed toasted coconut and white chocolate ($3.50 each). Or frosted sugar cookies ($3.25). There are extra-large brownies stuffed with peanut butter cup with peanut butter drizzle ($3.50) and muffins with crumb topping ($3.25). Flavors rotate weekly for brownies and muffins. ....
