Environmentalist urges govt to find source of microplastics in Ganga | Varanasi News

Varanasi: Noted environmental scientist and chairman of Mahamana Malaviya Research Centre for Ganga, River Development and Water Resource Management at Banaras Hindu University, Prof. B D Tripathi has urged the government to take immediate measures to find out the sources of microplastic pollution in the Ganga water, as claimed by a study conducted by Delhi-based NGO Toxics Link in collaboration with the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa.
The study reportedly claims that the Ganga in Varanasi, Kanpur and Haridwar is polluted with multiple types of plastic. Highest concentration of single-use and secondary plastic products was found in the water at Varanasi. Microplastics are fragments of any type of plastic less than 5mm in length. ....

MPs set to grill 17 parastatal chiefs over Sh83bn loans

Parliament has summoned the top management of 17 state corporations that have failed to repay loans worth Sh84.3 billion guaranteed by the Treasury.
The National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said it will grill top managers of the parastatals which have continued to rely on the Treasury for bailouts.
The committee is seeking to establish why cash-strapped parastatals continue to sink into more debt despite the Treasury pumping in billions of shillings in bailout.

Universities join hands to create Biodiversity for Malawi 2063 research plans

National Planning Commission (NPC) Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali has applauded Malawi universities for joining hands to organise a research dissemination conference that will create Biodiversity for Malawi 2063 research plans.
Munthali was guest of honour at the opening of the conference on Tuesday at Nalipiri EcoResort in Mulanje, whose sub-themes are Water Resource Management; Natural Products & Health; and Machine Learning for Diversity.
