‘Circumstances responsible for water allocation change over time and do not get finality’
The expert witness appearing for Telangana before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT-II) Ghan Shyam Jha, a former Chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC), has brought to the notice of the tribunal the view taken by KWDT-I on the aspirations of Telangana people in the matter of Krishna waters.
During the cross-examination of the witness by senior counsel appearing for Andhra Pradesh R. Venkataramani before the tribunal headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday, Mr. Jha stated that KWDT-I had recorded that “. the circumstances responsible for water allocation change over time and do not get finality for all times to come. As such it is always subject to review”. ....

Municipal District (M.D.) of Pincher Creek Council passed a motion to have a letter drafted, reaffirming council’s stance around proposed changes to the Oldman River Basin Water Allocation Order, with the intention of sending it to Premier Jason Kenney.
The motion was put forward by Coun. Terry Yagos during the March 9 council meeting, following discussions around a letter that was signed by City of Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman and sent to a number of provincial and federal elected officials.

An initial 5% water allocation for Central Valley Project growers on the Westside, especially the Westlands Water District was announced this week. Many farmers on the Westside, in the Westlands Water District, grow treenut crops. With little rain and snow this season, the growers didn t expect a big allocation, but that 5% really stung.
Jose Gutierrez is Chief Operating Officer for Westlands Water District. He said, if available, Westlands will be buying supplemental water for growers.
“We not only manage our CVP allocation for our water users, but Westlands is also active on procuring what we call supplemental water. We buy water in the open market from willing sellers, North of Delta and South of Delta. And we purchased that and allocated to our water users,” said Gutierrez. “So, every year we re faced with the review and approval requirements of state and federal agencies.” ....
