The $367.2 million Rookwood Weir project reached a significant milestone on Friday, with the announcement in-river construction was underway.
Rookwood Weir is being built on the Fitzroy River, 66 kilometres southwest of Rockhampton.
Once complete, the more than 16-metre high weir would enable a transition to higher value agricultural land use and facilitate new industrial business opportunities in the region.
The 18-metre high concrete Riverslea Bridge upgrade was also nearly complete.
The upgrade would replace the existing crossing with a single 3.5-metre wide road lane, connecting the approaches to the bridge with the existing road, including passing bays at both ends, and demolishing the existing culvert crossing. ....

Rookwood Weir maximum yield increased at cost of $15m

An extra $15 million will be spent to increase Rookwood Weir s maximum medium priority yield by 10,000ML, but Capricornia MP Michelle Landry said she would still fight for the originally-conceived high yield amount.
The state and federal governments announced today that Sunwater and the companies involved in constructing the weir decided to raise its crest height by 0.7m, bringing the medium priority yield figure to 86,000ML.
The governments will pay for the extra work with $7.5 million each, bringing the total cost of the project to $367 million.

Water trucking trial to begin for Mount Morgan

In the meantime the council intends to look into and consult residents about a more sustainable solution.
The No.7 dam is now at 9.9 per cent – three to six months’ worth of drinkable water – but the council stressed residents would not be forsaken.
Fitzroy River Water manager Jason Plumb said the three to six month estimate was based on expected evaporation and the fact Mount Morgan residents used about 750 kilolitres of water a day.
“There is the potential as the dam level continues to drop that the water might reach a point where it becomes more difficult to treat … that might become the obvious trigger commencing tanking in water,” he said. ....
