Pauline Park, a Korean American transgender progressive activist, was skeptical of Andrew Yang when he ran for president. She thought his signature universal basic income proposal was too “vague” and did not not articulate a “larger vision” for addressing inequality and pursuing social justice.
But as Yang geared up to run for New York City mayor and eventually jumped into the race in January, Park found the candidate’s platform more concerning. She didn’t like his position on the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement and his vow to “push back against” the movement if elected. His support for providing more resources to the New York City Police Department was another, and Park said Yang has failed to outline a clear affordable housing plan. (Read Yang’s plan here.) ....

Remember last month, when state lawmakers
voted to strip a scandal-scarred Gov. Andrew Cuomo of his emergency powers, or at least said they did? You could be forgiven for forgetting, given the stream of pronouncements that have continued from the governor’s office ever since, governing everything from closing time at gyms and casinos to restaurant capacity to attendance at sporting events. ....

Andrew Yang's mayoral campaign is being run by a lobbying

SHARE:
Andrew Yang’s two campaign managers, his press secretary, his policy director and multiple senior advisers don’t actually work for his New York City mayoral campaign. They’re employed by Tusk Strategies, a lobbying firm that’s regularly hired by clients to advocate for or against bills that are being considered by the City Council and the mayor. And the arrangement raises concerns about what kind of access this lobbying firm – and the private clients that hire Tusk – would have to the mayor if Yang were to win the election.

With much of organized labor having already taken sides in the New York City mayor’s race, all eyes turn now to the United Federation of Teachers a powerful arm of the American Federation of Teachers whose endorsement could bring a significant boost to the mayoral hopeful who gets the nod. ....
