Scientists identify animal model to study human musculoskeletal aging
There are many components to aging, both mental and physical. When it comes to the infrastructure of the human body - the musculoskeletal system that includes muscles, bones, tendons and cartilage - age-associated decline is inevitable, and the rate of that decline increases the older we get. The loss of muscle function and often muscle mass is scientifically known as sarcopenia or dynapenia.
For adults in their 40s, sarcopenia is hardly noticeable about 3% muscle mass is lost each decade. For those aged 65 years and older, however, muscle decline can become much more rapid, with an average loss of 1% muscle mass each year. More importantly, sarcopenia is also marked by a decrease in strength, impaired gait, reduced physical activity, or difficulty completing everyday tasks. ....

Merino Superior Sires No.26 was released in October and is available, along with other Merino Sire Evaluation program information, at www.merinosuperiorsires.com.au
The 2020 Merino Superior Sires No 26 publication has been published by the Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Association (AMSEA) reporting the results of the 350+ sires entered in Merino Sire Evaluation between 2015 and 2019. Results include MERINOSELECT ASBVs for both wool and carcase traits, alongside widely used indexes. These results add to the within-site classing, visual and measured results reported by trial sites on the Merino Superior Sires website.
Merino Superior Sires reports Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) for each sire for a range of measured traits including, clean fleece weight, fibre diameter, staple strength, body weight, eye muscle depth, fat depth, plus worm egg count. Breeding Values are also included for the visual trait of early breech ....

Viral infections are self-limiting. When the body’s immune system has won over the battle, the body is expected to shortly recover. However, many convalescents from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) experience persistent symptoms that can last for months.
Called “long haulers” these individuals experience a variety of symptoms, such as the difficulty of breathing, a cough, and fatigue.
Now, researchers at the Wuhan Research Center for Communicable Disease Diagnosis and Treatment, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in China revealed that some patients who had recovered from COVID-19 are experiencing symptoms that persisted for more than six months. ....
