Monday, 08 February 2021 - 23:06 The Netherlands have announced that they are suspending all adoptions from abroad with immediate effect, after an official inquiry found many abuses. The Netherlands is suspending international adoptions after a government commission found that some children had been stolen or purchased from their birth parents, Legal Protection Minister Sander Dekker announced on Monday. An investigative commission has found that some children from Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka were taken from their parents. The commission reports that officials knew of the abuse since the 1960s. The commission was set up under pressure from increasing numbers of grown-up adopted children who began to research their roots and often found that their birth documents had been forged or lost, or that their adoption had been illegal. ....

Friday, 22 January 2021 - 8:29 Ten Dutch nationals arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday as the first group of foreign travellers after opening the Sri Lankan airports for commercial flights. The group arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport, on flight EK 648 from Dubai yesterday (21) night. The Hiru News correspondent at the airport stated that 5 Dutch adults and 5 children were among the group. In addition, another five German tourists arrived at the BIA today (22) morning. Reportedly, that they are a group of journalists who came to cover the re-opening of Sri Lanka to foreign tourists. Meanwhile, 186 Sri Lankan workers who were staying in Bahrain also arrived in the island yesterday afternoon. ....
