Top Story June 5, 2021 LONDON: Rishi Sunak has told world finance leaders that the world cannot “continue to rely on a tax system that was largely designed in the 1920s”. Speaking at the first in-person G7 finance meeting since the start of the pandemic in London on Friday, the Chancellor said the world had “high expectations” for what could be agreed over the two-day summit. And he said it was clear that taxation had to change in a “complex global digital economy”. Ahead of the meeting, Sunak said he was aiming to secure a “fair deal” on digital taxation during the meeting with ministers from the US, Japan, France, Canada, Germany and Italy at Lancaster House. ....
New study shows icing muscles after exercise ineffective, counter-productive 26 Apr, 2021 10:31 PM 5 minutes to read New York Times After a particularly vigorous workout or sports injury, many of us rely on ice packs to reduce soreness and swelling in our twanging muscles. But a cautionary new animal study finds that icing alters the molecular environment inside injured muscles in detrimental ways, slowing healing. The study involved mice, not people, but adds to mounting evidence that icing muscles after strenuous exercise is not just ineffective; it could be counter-productive. Check inside the freezers or coolers at most gyms, locker rooms or athletes kitchens and you will find ice packs. Nearly as common as water bottles, they are routinely strapped onto aching limbs after gruelling exercise or possible injuries. The rationale for the chilling is obvious. Ice numbs the affected area, dulling pain, and keeps swelling and inflammation a ....

Photo / Unsplash Manawatu Guardian By: Mike Clark Do you rely on word-of-mouth marketing? Have you ever looked at your star rating on Google? Are you aware of what people are saying about you? Back in September 2016 the internet and marketing people were abuzz about the new weighting that Google was putting on customer comments and star ratings. Suddenly, one of the oldest forms of marketing was going to impact your page ranking. Nowadays, we are so used to seeing the star ratings and comments that many of us underestimate how much influence this has on our decision-making process. (It has a huge influence, in case you were wondering!) ....
Bitcoin is surging as an inflation hedge, however do not rely out gold both Meanwhile, bitcoin has soared nearly 70% and is currently hovering just below $50,000 per coin not far from the record high it reached last month. Still, fans of gold think the yellow metal is due for a rebound even if bitcoin continues to march higher as well. Gold is a classic fear trade. Prices rallied last year on worries about coronavirus lockdowns crippling the global economy. But gold also does well when investors are worried about inflation as they are now. Plus, the price volatility of bitcoin may make it less attractive than gold to many big institutions looking to protect their cash, despite recent decisions by the likes of Tesla (TSLA) and MicroStrategy (MSTR) to hold bitcoin on their balance sheets. ....
austria Criticism of Ema s slowness on authorizations and delays in procurement Sebastian Kurz (Ansa) Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announces a change of course in his vaccination plan. And he announces it just before his trip to Israel, not surprisingly. Austria, Denmark and other first movers will no longer rely on the European Union in the future and, together with Israel, will produce second generation vaccine doses for further coronavirus mutations in the coming years as well as working together to search for options for treatment, Kurz said. In preparation for the trip, the Chancellor today meets the representatives of the main Austrian pharmaceutical companies. The EU approach - he said - has been fundamentally correct, but the EMA is too slow with approvals and there are delays in deliveries by pharmaceutical companies . ....
