At age fourteen, Stephen Shore had his work purchased by Edward Steichen for the Museum of Modern Art, New York. At seventeen, Shore was a regular at Andy Warhol’s Factory, producing an important photographic document of the scene, and in 1971, at the age of twenty-three, he became the first living photographer since Alfred Stieglitz forty years earlier to have a solo show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has had numerous one-man shows, including those at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; George Eastman House, Rochester; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Jeu de Paume, Paris; and Art Institute of Chicago. He has received two NEA grants and a Guggenheim Foundation grant. Since 1982 he has been director of the photography program at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where he is the Susan Weber Professor in the Arts. ....
Takashi Honma Oni and White Horse START: Apr 24, 2021 END: Aug 1, 2021 From April 24 to August 1, the Dazaifu Tenmangu Museum is showing the recent film by the photographer Takashi Homma, “Oni and White Horse,” a film focusing Shiroume-go (a.k.a., “Shiro-chan”), the shrine’s late sacred horse which had been a subject for Homma’s work since the exhibition “Seeing Itself”, the Ninth Dazaifu Tenmangu Art Program in 2015. While his previous work, “Horseshoes and Shiro-chan,” had focused on the horse during the Jinkoshiki Grand Procession of Sugawara Michizane (designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Fukuoka Prefecture) and having its horseshoes changed, this work was inspired by Homma’s creative idea to u ....
Happening in and around the white cube this week… Three years ago the white cube began as a list of art happenings in and around Montreal. Last year, the column took a turn into my own art thoughts and experiences. When the pandemic hit, and Lorenza Mezzapelle took over as arts editor, the column ceased. Canadian Centre for Architecture reopens with three new exhibitions Eye Camera Window: Takashi Homma on Le Corbusier. Installation view, 2020. MONTREAL .-The Canadian Centre for Architecture announced the reopening of their galleries and bookstore to the public, as of Wednesday, 10 February 2021. The three exhibitions in the galleries can now finally receive visitors. The Things Around Us: 51N4E and Rural Urban Framework (through 19 September 2021), discusses how and why we should rethink the role of the architect, and explores the meaning of context today. The exhibition, presented in the CCAs main galleries, is curated by Francesco Garutti (CCA Curator, Contemporary Architecture) in collaboration with Rural Urban Framework (Hong Kong) and 51N4E (Brussels).
