Ad Standards lenient on complaints in 2020 that were pre-COVID norms May 5, 2021 11:16 At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, self-regulatory body Ad Standards encouraged advertisers to reconsider the content of advertisements to reflect the community standards of the time. According to the organisation’s annual Review of Operations report, Ad Standards observed an early trend of consumers becoming sensitive to advertisements that showed behaviour contrary to health advice from the Australian Government about social distancing and hygiene to reduce the spread of COVID-19. One of the first complaints lodged regarding COVID-19 regulations was about an ad for Bisolvon which depicted a woman coughing openly in a public park, which would have been a breach in advice to self-isolate while experiencing symptoms of the virus. Recognising that most ads at the time were made prior to the onset of the pandemic, Ad Standards community panel was pragmatic in ru ....
âWe estimate that Romania’s goal of ensuring speeds of at least 30 Mbps for 80% of households by 2027 will require most of the public funding effort, both in supporting increased coverage and in encouraging the âadoptionâ of new services,â Dragos Preda, Secretary of State, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Communication told The Diplomat-Bucharest. âDuring the budget years 2021 – 2027, future developments of state-of-the-art (NGN) backbone and backhaul networks will be supported, either by launching new state aid programs or by taking additional measures that will encourage private investment in broadband infrastructure. It is estimated that the construction of NGN backhaul infrastructure currently exceeds 2 billion Euros, while 750 million Euros are needed to modernize existing networks in urban areas, and 1.25 billion Euros represent the financing needs to achieve NGN coverage in urban and rural areas.” ....
The European Commission will try to mitigate the risks stemming from EU data being in the hands of third countries by outlining a series of 2030 objectives that will help the bloc procure next-generation data processing technologies, documents obtained by EURACTIV reveal. ....
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a slow withdrawal from lockdown for England Credit: Leon Neal/PA SIR – The Prime Minister has said consistently that decisions about unlocking will rely on data. However, the latest decisions rely on more modelling by the same group of scientists whose previous predictions have been wildly inaccurate. I am not a scientist, but with current figures showing a significant drop in infections, deaths and hospital admissions, and with more vaccinations to come quickly, a projection of an additional 55,000 deaths if some restrictions are eased by Easter seems to me to be yet more scaremongering. ....
The European Commission will lay out a series of new objectives in the field of 5G communications as part of its ‘Digital Decade’ plans, following a series of delays to the EU’s next-generation telecoms rollout, officials have said. The Digital Decade targets for 2030 are set to be unveiled by the Commission on March 9, with the aim of reducing the EU’s dependence on foreign countries for the provision of key technologies. Given the EU’s delays in rolling out 5G networks, next-generation telecommunications are expected to feature prominently in the plans. “5G will certainly be in there,” said Peter Stuckmann, head of unit at the European Commission in charge of future connectivity systems. “You could in principle call it the ‘mini 5G action plan’,” he told an online event held by Forum Europe on Tuesday (23 February). ....
