The Army isnât waiting for the return of the JEDI. With the Defense Departmentâs Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud contract remaining in limbo amid legal challenges, the Army has taken several steps in recent weeks to move its cloud ambitions ahead.
The serviceâs Enterprise Cloud Management Agency recently released two different requests for information related to its cloud program. One indicates that the Army is looking for help to modernize and migrate applications to its enterprise cloud environment, known as cARMY. The other reveals the Army is looking for a cloud-native, enterprisewide data management platform and related managed services.

Through the solicitations, the Army’s cloud agency, established in March, is looking to standardize the treatment of data across the service’s components, as well as migrate applications and systems to commercial cloud in an effort to prepare the Army for data-driven wars of the future. The service recognizes that cloud will play a key role in the storage, access and transport of data, as well as the development of artificial intelligence tools on future battlefields.
