Thu, Feb 25th 2021 6:26am Karl Bode Last November, Comcast quietly announced that the company would be expanding its bullshit broadband caps into the Northeast, one of the last Comcast territories where the restrictions hadn t been imposed yet. Of course Comcast was utterly tone deaf to the fact there was a historic health and economic crisis going on, or how imposing unnecessary surcharges on consumers already struggling to make rent wasn t a great look. In some states, like Massachusetts, lawmakers stood up to the regional monopoly, going so far as to push a law that would have banned usage caps during the pandemic. ....

Mediacom is doing a lot to kick 3.0 modems only off the network so I have a feeling next year this are about to get crazy stupid fast I currently have an MB 8600 modem so I can in theory have port bonding. But on the other hand, it highlights how ISPs like Comcast have always had the ability to do so. “Today’s announcement shows that Comcast can improve its service for families and community members in need, at any time,” said Devren Washington, Senior Policy Organizer of the Movement Alliance Project, in a statement. “25 Mbps isn’t enough when children, caregivers, and communities all rely on one internet connection. ....
Internet Data Usage Surged 18 Percent Last Year: Report In terms of total gigabytes consumed in home, streaming boxes and sticks took up the most, with 32 percent, followed by smart TVs and gaming consoles, both with 23 percent. PCs took up 11 percent and tablets 4 percent. The coronavirus pandemic had a massive effect on consumer habits, especially with customers stuck at home for long stretches. And perhaps unsurprisingly, this led to a big increase in total data usage. Comscore released data on Friday which showed that total in-home data usage by Americans increased 18 percent in 2020, compared to 2019. The research listed different types of technologies, and how the data changed from month to month. The overall data usage, per Comscore, increased by double digits every month, but especially when the first stay-at-home orders were in place in spring. ....
