A summer journey fills the pockets with scraps of nothing and bits of everything. The boarding coupon for seat 33F. A receipt for two crunchie bars, a ticket from that play in Galway, a few 20-pence pieces, a flat lake stone for skimming. And that slip of paper, scrawled with the name Dad mentioned as we traveled through Ireland in July.
“No one slept. Eight of us in the one car. We drove all night from Sneem to Cobh, May 19, 1949,” said Dad. “The tender left for the ship at 11 a.m. It was an old troop carrier. Frank sent me the ticket from Rhode Island.”

It s almost March which means St. Patrick s Day is right around the corner. Even thought last year s St. Patty s Day didn t really happen (thanks rona), 2021 is already bringing better news. The 3rd annual St. Patrick s Day Bash at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds is happening, and new this year is St. Patrick s Day Parade.
Is it really a St. Patrick s Day celebration if there isn t a parade? This year, there definitely will be one!
On day 2 of the 3rd annual St. Patrick s Day Bash at the fairgrounds, for the first time ever, they will be having a St. Patrick s Day parade. For those who would like to participate in this year s parade, they can call Kelly at the fair office to register, 563-326-5338. There is no charge to enter the parade, and the deadline to register is March 10th.
