Coronavirus UPDATE: 100 fewer COVID patients in hospital

The number of Covid-19 patients in public hospitals here dropped to 371 last night - which is over 100 fewer than a week earlier. 
Ninety three patients with the virus are in intensive care which is the lowest in more than two months 
A further 311 new infections were recorded in the Republic yesterday including 14 in Louth and 12 in Meath, while 30 new deaths were reported.

Drogheda Port Access Northern Cross Route one of the lowest marked in funding application

The funding application for the
Drogheda Port Access Northern Cross Route was one of the lowest marked in the
Urban Regeneration and Development Fund. 
New figures show out of the 76 applications received for the funding, the project came in 66th place, while it s believed it received less than 400 marks in the marking scheme.
This compares with the successful application for redevelopment of Bridge Street and Linenhall street in Dundalk, which is believed to have received in the region of 700 marks. 
Figures released to
LMFM also show that over €56 million was being sought by Louth County Council through Government funding, with the local authority financing the remaining €18.7 million of the total cost of €75 million. ....

Fiona Squibb says the charity’s chief executive, Ardee man Andrew Kelly has long sought her removal from the board.
Dundalk based animal welfare officer Fiona Squibb has been suspended from the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) pending an investigation.
The move was taken after grievances were raised by charity s chief executive, Ardee man Andrew Kelly.
Ms. Squibb, who is the chairperson of the society, as well as board member Seamus Counihan have both been suspended by the board, while an interim chairman, David Skelly, resigned on Monday. ....

Aldi to spend over €1BN with Irish suppliers in 2021 abd boost annual spend on Irish food and drink by 17.5%

In 2020, Aldi sourced €20.7M of locally produced food and drink from Louth based suppliers. Aldi partners with 11 Louth producers including long-term relationships with
Nature’s Best, Alltech Beverages, 
East Coast Bakehouse and Haribo Ireland.
 
Aldi will boost its annual national spend on Irish food and drink by 17.5% in 2021 to €1BN, with further opportunities available to Louth suppliers. Operating four stores in Louth, Aldi employs 122 full time staff, spending €5.2M on wages annually. It is seeking to recruit 60 new employees for its Louth stores this year.
