Tracie Fry runs silent auction for breast cancer research

Published: 10:00 AM April 1, 2021    Portishead artist Tracie Fry, right, and Nadine Johnson from Tonic with the charity painting auction. - Credit: Tracey Fowler Portishead artist Tracie Fry has teamed up with Tonic Hair and Beauty House to raise funds for charity.  A painting of two boats on a beach is on display in the window of the Combe Road salon with silent bids invited.   The painting will go to the highest bidder and the new owner will then be asked to decide how the painting is completed.  Tracie said: “I wanted to do something to support Breast Cancer Research and, as an artist, auctioning a painting seemed the natural thing to do. However, I wanted it to be special, so the highest bidder will be asked to name the boats. Maybe in someone’s memory, to celebrate children or family or to recognise a business venture.

Center Court Rewind: In 1995 and '96, the Cony girls spent two years on a mission

increase font size Center Court Rewind: In 1995 and ’96, the Cony girls spent two years on a mission After being denied by Lawrence, the Rams got their shot and took the state by storm. Paul Vachon had to laugh. The topic was his Cony girls basketball teams from 1994-95 and 95-96, the question was whether he and his players could detect the animosity from the crowds in front of which they played, and Vachon chuckled as if he can still hear the noise. “That’s an understatement,” he said. “Did I sense it? Oh my God, did I sense it. And what we would do is basically say ‘girls, let’s just play. They don’t know what we’ve gone through. They don’t know the hard practices we’ve had. They don’t know the pressure we’ve been under.
