The Manawatū Jazz Club Big Swing Band are coming to the monthly meeting at the St Johns Club on Sunday, May 2. And with them are a young vocal group that go by the name of JAZZIN 4. ....
Pella High School senior Ryan Mace called last Friday’s state championship victory over Ballard a dream come true. Mace is a three-sport athlete for the Little Dutch, having quarterbacked the football team to a pair of playoff performances, pitched for the baseball team since his freshman year and started all 27 games as a forward on this year’s basketball title team. He joined Trevor Castle during the postgame show following Friday’s championship victory at Wells Fargo Arena. “Growing up in Pella, we came here a few times and I watched people like Ryan Van Wyk and Nick Finney play. It’s incredible to be able to play here and have the little kids in the community look up to you, because I was once that kid.” ....
It was another grind it out affair at the state tournament for the Pella High boys basketball team, with a stifling defensive effort leading the way in a 46-32 victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton heard live on 92.1 KRLS. With the win, the Little Dutch are headed to their first state title game since 2010 later today. With Pella matching the Warriors’ slow-down style on offense, the score was just 17-12 in favor of the Little Dutch heading into halftime. They started to stretch that lead in the third quarter, capping it off with a hustle bucket by junior Karl Miller at the buzzer to open a 30-21 lead. ....
