Sussex second highest in country for stalking cases - police

POLICE in Sussex have recorded the highest number of stalking reports for anywhere in the country apart from London.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Richards of the force s Public Protection Command said officers are advising and supporting more victims than ever .
It comes after a new law was passed last year which aims to give greater protection for victims of stalking.
Sussex Police became the first force in the country to enforce a Stalking Protection Order (SPO) when the law came into effect in January 2020.
In the past year there has since been 29 court orders in the county, and seven applications are currently awaiting court hearings. ....

Shana Grice murder: Family launch legal bid for full inquest

Now Shana’s family, including her mum Sharon, have launched a legal bid against the decision of the senior coroner for Brighton and Hove not to hold a full inquest.
At a remote hearing at the High Court, they argued that a “full, independent and focused inquest” was necessary to consider whether her death could have been avoided and “how to prevent a similar tragedy happening again”.
It follows the success of the family of Susan Nicholson who brought a similar case against the West Sussex Coroner in a bid to hold a full inquest following her murder at the hands of her boyfriend Robert Trigg in 2011. ....
