Gov. Greg Abbott Doubles Down Against Federal COVID-19 Aid For Migrants At The Border

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott visited Mission, Texas, on Tuesday to address the rising number of migrants arriving at the border and federal immigration policy changes.
Abbott spoke after being briefed by Border Patrol and law enforcement in the Rio Grande Valley, a high entry point for migrants.
He detailed the state’s increased law enforcement presence in the area and once again critiqued President Joe Biden and his administration for allowing some asylum-seeking families and children into the country.
“We will work to step up and try to fill the gap that the federal government is leaving open by making sure we deploy every resource, whether it be Texas Department Public Safety, national guard, whatever we need to do, Texas is going to fight for the safety and security of our state,” he said. ....

One of the Gateway City’s premiere tourist events will go fully virtual this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that the number of cases in the city continues to be high.
The ninth-annual edition of the Laredo Birding Festival is set to take place Saturday. Although the event will not partake in their yearly expeditions around the city as locals and tourists gather to go bird watching they will hold bird watching expeditions virtually for those that do attend. ....

Biden border policy prompts end to some claims for land for wall

Federal government drops several eminent domain claims in South Texas for border wall
The government had continued filing legal efforts to take private land for the border wall right up until Trump s final day in office.

The Houston-based U.S. attorney for a sprawling region that includes the South Texas stretch of border, has dropped efforts to seize at least three tracts that had been earmarked for stretches of the border wall, citing President Joe Biden s plan to pause wall construction.
Ryan Patrick, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Texas, said in the court filings the executive order Biden signed on his first day in office on Jan. 20 essentially made the land condemnations moot, at least for now. Efforts to drop other condemnations could be coming soon, court documents indicated. ....
