The number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing over the last 40 days. Quarantine zones have become overloaded, while field hospitals have had few beds for patients.
Mass Covid-19 testing has been replaced by taking samples for testing at homes and apartment buildings
The situation has forced the city to change its ways of fighting the pandemic.
On July 13, the HCM City Police instructed its units to change the way of controlling people’s travel. Twelve quarantine checkpoints at the city level, placed at the city entrance gates, and 310 checkpoints in the inner city were set up.
The authorities of Ho Chi Minh City have scrambled to take stronger measures aimed at breaking a new chain of COVID-19 transmission after dozens of locals linked to recent outbreak at Renaissance Mission Church were exposed to the virus.

A lax mentality that breached prevention protocols has worsened the situation of virus variants and other factors that Vietnam is dealing with in its fourth Covid-19 wave.
After going for more than a month without any Covid-19 community transmission, the streak snapped on April 27 with a hotel employee infected by a group of Indian experts quarantined at the hotel in the northern province of Yen Bai.
Two days later, six more local cases were recorded in the northern province of Ha Nam. The cases stemmed from one man who finished his mandatory 14-day quarantine period after returning from Japan, but neglected post-quarantine self-isolation protocols and ended up passing the virus to others.

Numerous alarming factors, including multiple outbreaks, coronavirus variants and lax mentality have all contributed to Vietnam s ongoing fourth Covid-19 wave, experts said.
After spending around a month with no new community transmission, on April 27 Vietnam saw its streak broken after a hotel employee in the northern Yen Bai Province got infected from a group of Indian experts quarantined at the hotel.
Two days later, six local cases were recorded in northern Ha Nam Province, stemming from a man who finished his mandatory 14-day quarantine period after returning from Japan, but neglected self-isolation protocols and passed on the virus.
