A COUNCIL highways boss has responded to residents who fear the removal of the traffic lights on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth will have detrimental effect on pedestrians - particularly the disabled and elderly. Michael Kelly, president of Weymouth and Portland Access Group, said he objects to Dorset Council s plan to remove the pedestrian crossing on the Abbotsbury Road-Holland Road junction. Abbotsbury RoadThe council plans to remove the lights during autumn, but Mr Kelly said they provide an effect of calming traffic speed in this densely populated commercial and residential area . He also said the removal of this crossing will have a disproportionally high detrimental impact on people with disabilities, on elderly people, and on people caring for young children . ....

A proposal to Dorset Council seeks permission for the conversion of a Grade 2 listed redundant farm building and the demolition of an existing Dutch barn. The new homes will each be two-bed, if approved. A decision is expected to be made by a planning officer by August 6th. A ROAD on the outskirts of Bridport is set to close for overnight repair works this week - with a 43 mile official diversion route in place. Sections of the two roads leading up to the Gore Cross roundabout in Bradpole will be closed - this includes Corbin Way and Beaminster Road. The road will be closed to enable Dorset Highways to carry out surfacing works on all arms of Gore Cross roundabout, A3066 and Corbin Way. The road closure will come into place from 8pm on Friday (April 23) and will remain in force for five days. However, it is anticipated works will be completed by Saturday, April 24. ....
