Farm groups have spoken of their disappointment and desire for further scrutiny into local authorities’ actions as the latest data shows the national county farms estate remains under threat.
The
70th Annual Report to Parliament on Local Authority Smallholdings in England (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020) includes data from 40 authorities that responded to the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy (Cipfa) survey – 43 were approached.
However, in some cases, these submitted data sets were incomplete, making it difficult to draw a direct comparison with previous years, which Tenant Farmers Association chief executive George Dunn said Defra needed to address. ....

Debbie Ward is Homes England’s Interim Director for Transformation. Debbie joined Homes England at the end of 2019 and has been responsible for developing the local government capacity centre of excellence.
Debbie learned her housing trade in London as a Director of Housing, delivering big regeneration plans and has worked in Local Government across London and the South for 38 years. Debbie was Chief Executive of Dorset County Council from 2012 through to 2018 and played a key role in transformation of the public sector across the County.

Dorset Care Record adopts GP Connect standards

The Dorset Care Record (DCR) for health and social care has changed its approach for receiving GP data.
It has switched from using the Medical Interoperability Gateway to GP Connect standards, which facilitate the provision of APIs with GP systems.
The DCR team said the move should support better clinical care by opening up information and data held within the IT systems of practices.
Its senior responsible officer Peter Gill said: “The system will save time for clinicians, and provide better, more convenient care for patients.
“The service makes patient medical information available to all appropriate clinicians when and where they need it to support direct patient care, leading to improvements in both care and outcomes.” ....

Busy start to year for Ringwood Foodbank as demand increases

The foodbank serves the communities of Ringwood, Verwood and Fordingbridge.
A spokesperson for the foodbank said: “Since January 1 we have provided enough food for three meals a day for three days for 585 people. This is a nearly 100 per cent increase on the same period in 2020.
“We have been able to do this by the fantastic generosity of our communities who have continued to donate large amounts of food and money as well as providing the volunteers who have maintained our services throughout the pandemic.”
Two community larders have also been launched in Ringwood and Three Legged Cross, in partnership with Fareshare, New Forest District Council, Citizens Advice New Forest, Dorset County Council and All Saints Church Verwood. ....
