We encourage the employment of Indigenous Australians by providing training and development opportunities and offering a supportive workplace.
We take responsibility for the preservation of the nation s cultural heritage, as represented in our diverse collections. We seek to employ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our work to build, manage and preserve collections for future generations, and ensure Australia s stories can be known and told into the future with respect and sensitivity.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff provide services which better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We provide a supportive work environment for staff and offer attractive employment conditions. In 2012, staff from across the Library came together to form the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Working Group. The National Library’s
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2013–2018 is a commitment to improving employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The Strategy offers the Library opportunities to be enriched by Indigenous cultures, peoples and knowledge from across Australia and locally within the Australian Capital Territory.
We acknowledge the Ngunnawal people, the traditional custodians of the land the Library is placed on, and acknowledge and welcome other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our Strategy for building greater workforce engagement.

CSIRO’s Reconciliation Action Plan outlines the actions we will take to build stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through scientific knowledge sharing, education, employment opportunities and mutually beneficial partnerships that can deliver a positive impact to all Australians.
Endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP) outline practical actions that the organisation will take to build strong relationships and enhance respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. A RAP also sets out the organisation s aspirations to achieve greater equality.
