The program provides meals to children during the summer at no charge through the USDA Summer Food Service Program and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Since school ends Friday, June 4, there’s a gap between the end of the regular school year and the start of summer programs. You must register by tomorrow, June 3, to be eligible for a June 8 curbside pickup. Register at vcsedu.org. The distribution times are from 6:30 to 7 a.m. Students attending VCS Summer Programs in-person will receive their breakfast and lunch meals at no charge at the school they are attending. Volusia teacher makes remote learning work for gifted 5th graders Vicki Fritz’s head is just visible over the top of her computer monitor in the back of the room. The portable at Tomoka Elementary school classroom is … empty? Upon closer inspection, an entire class of fifth graders is on Fritz’s computer screen 13 squares that show a glimpse of a student’s home. Their voices filter in through a speaker under the window, turned up to give the illusion that they’re right there with her. Fritz is teaching fifth grade gifted students from around the district who would otherwise not be able to participate in the advanced program from home. Feb 10, 2021 11:24 AM Ormond Beach, FL - The choice of Ortona Elementary School over Osceola Elementary School made by the Volusia County School Board (VCSB) last August will stand. The decision to not reconsider the choice was made during yesterday s (February 9) meeting despite an offer of $1,950,000 as an economic incentive from the city of Ormond Beach. Osceola Elementary School is in the district belonging to District 4 Commissioner Carl Persis. When the decision was made last year, Persis is the only Board member who voted against the choice of Ortona Elementary. He said he believes the other Board members didn t want to revisit the issue and were not swayed by the offer of money from Ormond Beach. Because I was the only one that voted against it originally, it would take a member who was on the prevailing side to want to bring the issue back up.
