Kentucky adds Antigua, Coleman to coaching staff May 6, 2021 GMT LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) Kentucky has added former Illinois assistants Orlando Antigua and Ron Coleman to the coaching staff. Antigua, who served five years with the Wildcats before becoming head coach at South Florida for 2½ seasons, will be an associate coach while Coleman will be an assistant. In his previous stint at Kentucky, Antigua was praised for his skills as a recruiter and developer of talent along with forging relationships with players on and off the court. Antigua spent the past four seasons as an Illinois assistant with Coleman as they helped guide the Illini to consecutive 20-win seasons and a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seeding this spring. The coaches are credited with developing Illini guard Ayo Dosunmu and 7-footer Kofi Cockburn into All-American selections. ....

Calipari announced Thursday the addition of Orlando Antigua, who previously served on his staff, as associate head coach and Ronald Chin Coleman as assistant coach. The two were credited withhelping to develop Ayo Dosunmu, a consensus first-team All-American this past season, and Kofi Cockburn, a second-team All-American, at Illinois. The Illini finished the season at 24-7 and were a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky finished 9-16 and failed to make the tournament for the first time since 2013. ....

After spending the last four years with Illinois as their top assistant, Antigua is headed back to Lexington, KY to serve as an assistant coach under John Calipari. He started with Calipari back in 2008 with Memphis and followed him to Kentucky where he remained on the staff from 2009-2014. Antigua has had time to coach the Dominican Republic national team since then (2013-15) as well as coach the University of South Florida as the head man in charge from 2014-2017. Considered one of the best assistants and recruiters in the nation, his services come with a steep price. ....
