Paul, son of Wilf. I always had that when I was growing up. I always used to hope that one day, they’d introduce him as Wilf McGuinness, dad of Paul, but it’s never happened and I don’t think it ever will. That’s fair enough, for lots of reasons. He represented England at every level from schoolboys upwards, captained England schoolboys with Bobby Charlton in his team, was a Busby Babe all the way through to the first team at Manchester United, became a full England international, broke his leg and had his career ended at 22. Then, he coached England to the World Youth Cup when he was 25, helped with the senior England World Cup squad, became United manager at 32, then went on to have more managerial experience at other clubs in different places. When you look at it all, it’s unbelievable. ....

The midfielder, nicknamed The King of the Kippax in reference to the club s former ground, died earlier in January. To mark his service to the club, his cortege circled City s Etihad stadium on its way to Hale s St Peter s Church. Mike Summerbee, who played alongside him, said it had been incredibly touching to see it pass the stand which bears his name. The former winger, who played alongside Bell in the Cityside which won four trophies in three seasons between 1968 and 1970, was joined by a number of other ex-City players at the service, including the club s assistant coach Brian Kidd, former captain Tony Book and fellow England internationals Joe Corrigan, Dennis Tueart and Dave Watson. ....

Bell, who made 82 league appearances for Bury and scored 25 goals for the Shakers, passed away earlier in the month and the funeral was held this afternoon at St Peter’s Church in Hale, with a private ceremony for a limited number of mourners. His former City teammate Mike Summerbee attended the service alongside first team coach Brian Kidd, Tony Book and Joe Corrigan. Several of Bell’s football friends and colleagues also attended, including Peter Barnes, Dennis Tueart, Gary Owen, Alex Williams, Brian Horton, Tommy Booth and Dave Watson. ....
