Downtown Wabash joins Arts Campus Fort Wayne as Cultural District in Northeast Indiana Region
WABASH, Ind. On Friday, June 25, Downtown Wabash was designated an Indiana Cultural District by the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC). This designation is a prestigious milestone in the Creative Community Pathway Program. According to the IAC, “an Indiana Cultural District is a well-recognized, labeled, mixed-use area with a unique, authentic art and cultural identity.” The IAC provides project funding for designated Indiana Cultural Districts, facilitates statewide collaboration through the Indiana Cultural District Consortium, and provides other capacity-building opportunities for cultural district leadership. ....

After a two-year renovation project, the 115-year-old Eagles Theatre in Wabash opened Feb. 29 with grand plans for a year of concerts, movies and other events to show off the historic space. Less than three weeks later it was shuttered as the pandemic brought arts and entertainment events to a halt across the world. ....

In a year of unprecedented challenges and pivots, The Honeywell Foundation was selected along with eight other Northeast Indiana recipients for a 2021 Arts United Award for demonstrating resilience and adaptiveness.
Arts United Awards are presented annually to celebrate individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to arts and culture in Northeast Indiana.  
“It’s with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude that The Honeywell Foundation accepts this 2021 Arts United Award. Our organization faced many challenges in 2020 but it’s because of our team of dedicated, hard-working individuals that we were able to innovate and pivot our operations so that we could continue to deliver arts opportunities,” Honeywell Foundation CEO Tod Minnich said. ....
