Waynesboro students lend a helping hand in downtown

Waynesboro Record Herald Waynesboro Area Senior High School students in Heidi Shaull’s learning support classes have been lending a helping hand in the community since the beginning of the school year as part of their curriculum. Director of Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc., Bill Kohler, is appreciative of the group s hard work and dedication to helping the community. “Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. loves working with Mrs. Shaull as well as her students and staff on various jobs around downtown, Kohler said. Everyone is a joy to work with, and the group has really helped Mainstreet Waynesboro and the Waynesboro Theatre get some very important jobs done.

Kline s Korner: The Changing Landscape of Education By Dr. Tod Kline WASD Superintendent Over the past 11 months, we have witnessed schools becoming more agile, more prepared to pivot, and becoming more fluid. These new buzzwords developing today are each very accurate organizational adjectives and verbs. They are also helping to paint a new picture of schools today. Due to the pandemic, schools have had to depend on more remote learning. Most schools in PA have increased capacity for online or virtual learning. At one point, about 40% of PA schools were doing some sort of in-person schooling. Whether it was fully in-person every day, or some sort of combination of so many days per week, the lesser majority of PA schools were providing in-person education for students. A Gift for the Season By Dr. Tod Kline WASD Superintendent With all the tragedy, election drama, and stress 2020 has brought to our lives as individuals, communities and a nation, there have been some gifts presented. Education has seen a few, too. Many of our schools have proven to have little virus spread. The health department would have to agree that a significant percentage of positive cases were due to people bringing the virus in to the schools. Schools have turned out not to be big spreaders as expected. Parents were able to go to work while their children went to school every day. Each parent had choices for the mode for which their child would learn. If families were concerned to send their child to school, they could opt for virtual learning. At Waynesboro (WASD), we saw an increase in students from virtual to in-person learning as the year progressed.
