LAKKI MARWAT: The protesting Janikhel tribesmen on Sunday ended their around a month-long sit-in in Bannu district as marathon negotiations with government representatives bore fruit and the latter agreed to fully implement an earlier agreement reached between the two sides. The Janikhel tribesmen staged the protest sit-in about one month ago after killing of one of their elders. After holding successful talks with the government, the Janikhel elders announced to call off their sit-in and agreed to bury the slain tribal elder, Malik Naseeb Khan, who was killed by unidentified assailants on May 31 ad his body was placed in the protest instead of burial. ....

Photo by Sirajuddin LAKKI MARWAT: The government has released 54 tribesmen who were arrested by the police during a clash with Janikhel protesters near Tochi Bridge, Bannu, on Wednesday last, said provincial transport minister Malik Shah Mohammad Khan on Saturday. The minister told mediapersons that Janikhel elders had demanded release of the arrested men during talks with the administration and police authorities and tribal chiefs of other tribes and the government accepted their demand. The negotiations between the administration and Janikhel elders remained inconclusive on the fourth consecutive day as the protesting tribesmen stayed along Baran Bridge. ....

On Wednesday, Janikhel tribesmen had clashed with police near Tochi Bridge when they started proceeding towards the federal capital along with the body of slain tribal chief Malik Naseeb Khan who was killed by unknown assailants in Zindi Alikhel area on May 30. ....
