Together with the BJP’s ultra-nationalistic politics, the region is also witnessing a surge in demand for a separate statehood excluding Kashmir.

While addressing, DSSP Chairman Choudhary Lal Singh expressed shock and utter dismay over the results and added that it is the part of a bigger conspiracy to marginalize the voice of Dogras. “Why they used ballots instead of voting machines when they are going digital everywhere”, remarked Choudhary Lal Singh. He further said that the present election has been thrusted upon the public and our party which just was born, made its presence felt everywhere.

PAGD alliance ahead in 73 seats, BJP in 50 in J-K district polls

The People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an amalgam of seven political parties, was ahead in 73 seats and the BJP in 50 as votes for elections to District Development Councils in Jammu and Kashmir were counted on Tuesday, officials said. The Congress was trailing in number three position with leads in 21 seats in the trends available for 193 of the 280 seats for which voting was held over eight phases, officials said quoting the State Election Commission. The trends in most seats in the maiden DDC elections are in accordance with expectations the BJP strengthening its position in Jammu division while the PAGD, which includes regional heavyweights National Conference and People s Democratic Party, is ahead in the Valley.

J&K DDC polls: PAGD bags 99 seats, BJP emerges as single largest party

Former BJP minister Shakti Raj Parihar lost the District Development Council (DDC) election from two constituencies in Doda district despite his party emerging as the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir in the first election after abrogation of the special status and downgrading of the erstwhile state into a Union Territory last year. The People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an amalgam of seven mainstream parties including National Conference and PDP which have come together to seek restoration of the special status, was leading the result tally late Tuesday night by winning 99 seats against 77 won by the BJP. Independent candidates won 45 seats till the filing of this report.
