Carjackings on the rise in Philadelphia, police say


PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) It s a crime that s becoming all too common on Philadelphia streets. Investigators say carjackings have been skyrocketing, and the suspects committing these crimes have become more fearless.
I turned around and they pointed the guns in my face, asked for my wallet, my keys, and my phone, said John Greco, a victim of a carjacking.
Greco said two handguns were pointed at his head right outside his home on the 8300 block of Dorcas Street in Rhawnhurst on Sunday at about 7:30 p.m.
Greco said he was on his way to work when two men jumped out of a burgundy SUV, each holding a handgun, and demanded his phone, wallet, and car keys, before driving away in his car. ....

Creating ‘an architectural legacy’ started with mirroring local laneways

Sitting behind the Victorian shopfronts on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne is a mirrored concrete building.
Designed by Wood Marsh Architecture for developer Piccolo Developments, this brutalist apartment block captures the hues of the surrounding laneways as much as the worn patina of the Victorian parapets along this shopping strip.
Piccolo House includes 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The recipient of an architecture award from the Australian Institute of Architects (Victorian Chapter), it includes developer Michael Piccolo’s office at the top level, with the cafe Nine Yards at ground level. ....

William F. Lodanosky, 82, of Lewistown, passed away at his home on January 11, 2021. The second of four sons, he was born on October 14, 1938, to Joseph and Frances Lodanosky, of Mahanoy City, Pa.
Raised in Mahanoy City, Bill graduated from Mahanoy City High School in 1956. He took great pride in the fact that he had attended all eleven class reunions.
In high school, Bill was a member of the Navy Reserve, then from 1956 to 1958, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Gatling. Following his service time, he was employed by Western Electric, did a stint in the Merchant Marines, and then worked at Bethlehem Steel and Merck, Sharp and Dohme. ....
