Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers announced flags in the state will be flown at half-staff on Jan. 2 in honor of the Clayton Fire Department chief who died after a COVID-19 hospitalization. 
Fire Chief Donald Edwin Kittelson died on Dec. 17. He was a third-generation firefighter who served the Clayton Fire Department for 34 years.
The 55-year-old man who had no underlying health conditions 1 had been hospitalized with COVID-19 in early November and ultimately developed pneumonia and meningitis, KSTP s Alex Jokich reported.

The executive order is in effect from sunrise to sunset on Sat, Jan. 2.
Fire Chief Kittelson served the Clayton community for more than 34 years, Gov. Evers said. A third-generation firefighter, he was a pillar of his community and a mentor to many, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for firefighting with the next generation. Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with his family, loved ones, the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, and the entire Clayton community as they grapple with this loss. ....

MADISON, Wis. Gov. Tony Evers has ordered flags be flown at half-staff in honor of a firefighter who died after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Donald Edwin Kittelson died Dec. 17 after contracting COVID-19. He was chief of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department.
