Due to COVID-19 in-person gathering restrictions, spectators were not allowed to watch the ceremony. Nelson Mayor and Chair of Police Board John Dooley, conducted the Change of Command swearing-in ceremony for Chief Fisher, who replaced retiring Nelson Police Department Chief Constable Paul Burkart. ....

The Chief Constable is being sent off into the frigid waters of Kootenay Lake from the end of the Hall Street dock as Burkart, takes the plunge to raise money for BC Special Olympics FreezinforaReason Campaign with the Cold in the Koots fundraiser. Burkart, who will be replaced next month by incoming NPD Chief Constable Donovan Fisher, is being joined by Chief Len MacCharles of Nelson Fire Rescue Services and Chief Deb Morris of BC Ambulance Services. ....
