Miguel Diaz and three other San Diego relievers held visiting the Colorado Rockies scoreless on one hit over the final 5 1/3 innings Friday night as the Padres scored a 4-2 victory.
Wil Myers capped a two-run sixth with a tiebreaking double that put the Padres on top for good in the opener of a three-game series.
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland (1-3) was protecting a 2-1 lead when Jake Cronenworth opened the sixth with a single. Cronenworth moved to third on a double by Manny Machado. Freeland was then forced out of the game with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. ....

Freeland hot, but blisters late
Freeland continued his recent trend of great starts on Friday. He threw five strong innings and allowed six hits, two walks, and struck out three. He did allow three runs, though not in the way one might expect. The Colorado native allowed no hits through the first three innings and, despite occasional command issues, seemed to be cruising through another good outing.
He did allow a run in the fourth (breaking his streak of 15
1⁄
3 scoreless innings, the longest such streak of his career) via a Jake Cronenworth double and Trent Grisham single, but with the Rockies up 2-1 after five innings (that second Rockies run coming off of his own RBI double), “KFree” still looked to be in control. ....

Escobar hits 3-run homer, Diamondbacks beat Rockies 6-4

Arizona won its second straight game with a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies Wednesday night.
The Diamondbacks, owners of the worst record in the majors at 25-63, last won consecutive games May 10-11, when they beat the Miami Marlins in back-to-back games.
“We won a series,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “We haven’t won a series in I don’t know how long. We won two games in a row. I don’t know how long that’s been. I’m happy for these guys.”
Eduardo Escobar, the Diamondbacks’ lone All-Star Game representative, had three hits, including a three-run homer that broke open a 3-1 game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pinch-hitter Stuart Fairchild led off with a single, right fielder Josh Rojas walked and Escobar hit his team-leading 19th home run into the right field bleachers off Colorado reliever Tyler Kinley. ....
