Lozier warns of “sophisticated” scams targeting residents
From Staff Reports
Scammers claiming to be Publisher’s Clearing House representatives are targeting Beaver County residents in higher numbers, District Attorney Dave Lozier warned on Monday.
Older adults and other vulnerable populations are often at the receiving end of these scams, designed to separate victims from large sums of money. As early as last Thursday, a county resident received an official-looking letter and fraudulent $10,000 check from a well-known company.
These letters often claim the person has won money from the fabricated “International Lotto Commission.” If the person calls the phone number listed on the letter, scammers ask for personal information or promise to pay advances on the “winnings,” Lozier said. ....

Beaver County may consider death penalty for Ambridge mother

BEAVER Local prosecutors could consider capital punishment in the case of an Ambridge mother accused of killing two of her children.
Krisinda Bright, 48, of Ambridge, is charged with two counts of criminal homicide after investigators say she admitted to shooting and killing 16-year-old Jeffery Bright and 22-year-old Jasmine Cannady at a Maplewood Avenue home last month.
If Bright’s first-degree homicide charges are held over by a district judge, Beaver County District Attorney Dave Lozier’s office will meet with case investigators to discuss if her alleged actions are punishable by death under Pennsylvania statutes.
