A care home employee popped in to work for a visit on her wedding day so she could celebrate with residents who were unable to attend.
Sarah Thomas, an events co-ordinator at Finney House in Preston, went straight to the care home with her new husband, truck driver Dave Thomas, after the ceremony on Saturday so residents could see her in her wedding dress.
But when she arrived she found a full-scale, Covid-safe wedding party had been planned by her colleagues, Jen Stutter and Lisa Kimble, with decorations, Buck’s fizz and a cake.

Smith’s there, in his trademark jean shorts, oversized sports jacket, and backwards hat – the latter a Mooby’s design with cow horns extruding out, cutting a ceremonial ribbon with giant scissors and taking photos with fans. The filmmaker’s presence wasn’t announced, but he’s usually present for the opening of a Mooby’s installation, of which there’s been 13, all produced by LA experiential dining wiz Derek Berry.

He is perhaps Connecticut’s most famous businessman thanks to his appearance in thousands of commercials for Bob’s Discount Furniture. Bob Kaufman’s Connecticut-based chain, which turned 30 this year, has outlets as far away as California. We spoke with the West Hartford native about his life, his career and the puppet that’s taken his place in his ubiquitous ads. (This interview has been edited for length and clarity.)

William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty has announced its expansion with a new office in Niantic at 24 Pennsylvania Ave.
The new office joins the firm’s Old Lyme brokerage to become its second New London County location.
“We are excited to grow our presence in this highly sought-after market region by establishing a key office location in one of New London County’s premier destinations,” said Paul Breunich, the company’s president and chief executive, in a release.
Managing the new office will be Heather Gagnon, who also serves as the manager for the company’s Old Lyme brokerage. Gagnon was recently named William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty’s Manager of the Year, chosen for the honor from among 17 managers company-wide.
