NEW YORK (AP) â A New York federal judge on Wednesday nullified the suspension of horse trainer Bob Baffert, finding that the New York Racing Association acted unconstitutionally by failing to let him adequately respond to claims made against him after Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit failed a postrace drug test.
In her written ruling, Brooklyn Judge Carol Bagley Amon said a prompt post-suspension hearing where Baffert could refute the claims was required to meet constitutional muster.
But she said the racing association âhad held no hearing â let alone a prompt one.â ....

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A federal judge has nullified New York Racing Association’s (NYRA) suspension of famed thoroughbred trainer Bob Baffert, saying the organisation failed to provide him a post-suspension hearing.
The ruling was a significant win for the trainer, one of the most successful and recognisable figures in the sport, and allows for him to compete in New York state races again, effective immediately. ....

After hearing attorney arguments on July 12, a U.S. District Court judge has ruled in favor of trainer Bob Baffert s motion for a preliminary injunction against the New York Racing Association s temporary suspension. Judge Carol Bagley Amon of the Eastern District of New York determined on July 14 that NYRA s suspension of Baffert should not have taken place without some sort of hearing allowing him to address the organization s accusations against him.
NYRA notified Baffert ahead of the Belmont Stakes that it was suspending his ability to enter horses in races or have stall space at its racetracks due to his recent history of medication violations, the conflicting statements he provided to media around the Media Spirit scandal, and Churchill Downs suspension of the trainer. ....
