BOARDMAN Mrs. Mary Catherine “Cathy” Denny Queen, wife of Harold W. Queen, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, April 29, 2021.
She was born in Vaucluse, S.C. on Oct. 27, 1928, the youngest of five daughters of Virgil and Mary Spires Denny.
She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Columbia, S.C. and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. for a short time. Due to the serious illness of her father, she had to leave college.
Previously, she worked at the Division of Teacher Education and Certification, State Department of Education as a file clerk and secretary. After her college experience, she returned to the Education Department to complete a six year stint. ....

BOARDMAN Ernest W. Vaupel, 83, passed away after a struggle with cancer, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
Ernest, known by his family and friends as “Ernie,” was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Youngstown, son of the late Harry and Edith Davies Vaupel.
He attended South High School in Youngstown and was a lifelong area resident. After high school, Ernie served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 and received an honorable discharge.
After serving in the military, he returned to the Youngstown area and worked for East Ohio Gas Company, retiring as an inspector in 1993, after 30 years of service. ....

BOARDMAN Edison G. Lugibihl, 97, formerly of Hitchcock Road in Boardman, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Edison, known by his family and friends as “Ed,” was born April 25, 1924, in Pandora, the son of the late Orrie and Lydia Badertscher Lugibihl.
He graduated from Pandora High School in 1942. Edison served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Following the war, Edison received his bachelor’s degree in education from Bluffton College. He moved to Boardman in 1950 and continued his education, receiving his master’s degree in education and principal certificate at Kent State University. ....

BOARDMAN Christopher F. O’Donnell, 36, died Saturday afternoon, April 24, 2021, at University Hospitals in Cleveland, in the loving presence of his parents, sister and brother.
He was born March 21, 1985, in Mineola, N.Y., a son of Kevin and Mary Schiffauer O’Donnell, and had lived in this area most of his life.
He was a 2003 graduate of Boardman High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton in 2007. For the past five years, he was a banker for Huntington National Bank.
Besides his parents, he leaves his sister, Katie (Nicholas) Muscari; his brother, Kyle (fiancee Mary) O’Donnell; numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as his cherished nephew and niece, Mason and Maddie Lou Muscari. ....

NEGLEY Former Chairman of Compco Industries and former Mahoning County Republican Chairman, Clarence R. “Sonny” Smith, 92, died Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle.
He also operated Adamas Gem Shop at Market Street and McClurg Road, and Diamond Steel for many years. He served as county GOP chieftain from 1998 to 2010; and was a member of the Mahoning County Board of Elections from June 1998 to Jan. 7, 2013.
Active in the community, Mr. Smith was a strong supporter of Youngstown State University and Boardman High School, Sister Jerome’s ministries, Native American Indians, Boy Scouts and many civic concerns. At YSU, he was a major contributor to Penguin sports programs and played a major role in philanthropic efforts to raise funds for the construction of Stambaugh Stadium. Mr. Smith served as the co-chair of the Stambaugh Stadium project and was instrumental in the brick campaign. ....
