Bourne Town Administrator Anthony E. Schiavi has shown a clear preference for what he sees as the future of the Bourne Police Department. Mr. Schiavi is of the mind that the department should follow a trend he sees of departments across the state exiting civil service. The subject was brought up during the Bourne Board of Selectmenâs remote meeting on March 30. Mr. Schiavi commented on Article 13 of the proposed warrant for next monthâs Annual Town Meeting. The article calls for the Bourne Chief of Police to be removed from civil service. Mr. Schiavi opined that civil service, in general, may have outlived its usefulness. ....
A letter of thanks was received by the Bourne Fire Department from officials with the Town of Oak Bluffs on Martha s Vineyard. The letter from Jason Balboni, chairman of the Oak Bluffs Board of Selectmen, thanked Bourne Fire and Rescue for the department s help in transporting a patient to a Boston hospital. On February 2, an Oak Bluffs ambulance was taking a cardiac patient to Massachusetts General Hospital when the vehicle broke down on Route 25. In his letter, Mr. Balboni noted that Bourne Fire and Rescue crews not only provided assistance to the Oak Bluffs crew but âthe Bourne ambulance also transferred the patient to their own ambulance and completed the transfer all the way to Massachusetts General Hospital without delay.â ....

The Bourne Capital Outlay Committee has approved its recommended $2,866,510 capital spending budget for Fiscal Year 2022 to be part of the townâs total FY22 general fund operating budget. The committeeâs approval was made during its remote meeting on Monday, January 4. Committee chairwoman Mary Jane Mastrangelo noted that the budget breakdown shows $1,664,010 will be paid for with free cash, $200,000 from the townâs waterways fund and $1,002,500 from Integrated Solid Waste Management retained earnings. The departments submitting and receiving approval for capital expenses include: The ISWM facilityâs $1,002,500 appropriation would cover replacement of several pieces of equipment at the landfill.
