It’s 1968 and near the end of April. A feeling of sheer joy comes over me as I do barrel rolls down the hill where the new Armenian Genocide monument was being consecrated in Montebello, Calif. I’m 6 years old, oblivious to the meaning of the day, feeling like I had hit the jackpot a smooth, grassy hill of just the right incline to allow for an exciting speed without fear of injury.

Coasting blissfully downhill, I was not yet aware of the painful, formidable history that had brought these thousands of Armenians to that hill on that day and on every Armenian Genocide commemoration day thereafter. SAN FRANCISCO - Armenians around the world received something Saturday they have been waiting decades to receive.
President Biden released an official statement calling Turkey’s atrocities against Armenians that began during World War I a genocide. 
One hundred and six years ago, Armenians began being deported and killed by the Ottoman Empire, part of what is modern-day Turkey.
With the release of the president’s statement, this year’s remembrance gathering in San Francisco took on added significance. ....

Running from before sunrise to sundown, Luke Wicker has seen more incredible San Francisco views in a single day than many natives see in a lifetime.
On March 6, the ultrarunner ran every accessible peak in one day, 76 total, covering 65 miles and more than 10,000 feet of elevation gain. ....
