Cracker's David Lowery dishes on Spotify before free Cincinnati show

Suing Spotify – the streaming service with a reputation for paying pennies to musicians – sounds more fun than it might actually be.
But at least David Lowery earned some credit at work for doing so.
Not only is Lowery the lead singer of two notable rock bands, Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker, he’s also a college lecturer for a music-business program.
So when it comes to the business of music, Lowery probably knows more than the average rocker, and perhaps that’s why he has been an advocate for recording artists fighting for their fair share in the digital era. ....

Daniel Hutchens, co-founder of Athens band Bloodkin, dies at 56


Daniel Hutchens, who with his musical partner and lifelong friend Eric Carter helped define Athens music history with their band Bloodkin, died Saturday after suffering a stroke on Friday. He was 56. 
An West Virginia native, Hutchens (and his childhood friend Carter) spent parts of four decades in Athens and with Carter had recently released Bloodkin’s ninth album, “Black Market Tango,” the band’s first release since 2009’s “Baby, They Told Us We Would Rise Again.”  
Bloodkin’s first album, “Good Luck Charm” came out in 1994. Hutchens also recorded three solo albums, the last of which was “The Beautiful Vicious Cycle of Life” in 2016.  ....
