Reflections: Letter to the editor from 1874 By Evelyn Long - Contributing Columnist I love reading letters to the editor from years past. Writers held nothing back and at the same time the editors printed their thoughts. I want to share this letter written to Editor Brown, The Independent, and published May 21, 1874. “Mr Editor: We have a railroad in operation and two more in our mind’s eye. We have a navagable river (for turtles); We have a beautiful park to look at but not to walk in; We have a grand school house, with a first class corps of teachers; We have under construction, a large brick church; We have factories and foundries, mills and warehouses; We have stores of all kinds, and the very best market for produce and provisions in Ohio; ....
TCAT-McKenzie instructor dies from COVID-19 complications January 14, 2021 McKENZIE, Tenn. COVID-19 has claimed the life of a beloved educator in West Tennessee. Faculty and students at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at McKenzie are mourning the loss of HVAC instructor Terry Wilson. “Everyone here is in shock. It hits close to home. He was a young man,” Dr. Bradley White, TCAT-McKenzie president, said. Wilson tested positive for coronavirus during winter break. On Jan. 3, at just 49-years-old, Wilson died from complications of the virus. “Before we could get back, it was COVID-related pneumonia, and he passed away,” White said. Co-workers say Wilson was one of the best in his field. Wilson and his students won competitions at the state and national level thanks to Wilson’s leadership. ....
