Advertising blitz, not cash, to drive vaccine rate

A national advertising blitz will aim to spur millions of vaccinations by Christmas but the federal government has ruled out using cash vouchers in an escalating fight with Labor over the best way to encourage more jabs and ease the need for lockdowns.
The national plan will launch four advertising campaigns over six months to motivate people and will consider using lotteries and gifts rather than adopting Labor’s call for a $300 payment to every adult who is fully vaccinated by December 1.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologised in Parliament on Wednesday for delays to the vaccination rollout but argued that millions of Australians were booking vaccine doses without needing a federal payment. ....

Research backs cash payment as one way to lift vaccine rate

A leading researcher has backed a Labor proposal to pay people $300 if they are fully vaccinated by December 1 as the federal government says the idea is “insulting” to people who are doing the right thing to protect their health.
Queensland University of Technology professor Adrian Barnett said cash incentives were more powerful than other factors, such as lotteries or an explanation of health benefits, in encouraging people to take a step toward vaccination.
Federal Labor has proposed paying people $300 to get vaccinated.
