JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Construction is set to begin Monday at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library.
The library said in a press release Friday morning that the $740,000 project will help them expand the children’s library to provide space for workers and more materials.
Library director David Eckert says the renovation will help the library adapt to a consistently growing community. ....

Arena operators in South Dakota hope financial losses from COVID-19 are now behind them


Civic centers and arenas across South Dakota suffered significant financial losses during the COVID-19 pandemic but are seeing indicators of the potential for a return to profitability.
Auditoriums sat empty for a few months or more in the early days of the pandemic in early 2020, and bookings remained slow and event attendance was down through the rest of the year and into 2021.
Event cancellations or lost new business resulted from a desire by arena operators to be safe and by hesitancy of groups to gather indoors during the pandemic.
Operators had to reimburse thousands of dollars in pre-paid rents, lost money due to a drop in new business and saw unexpected expenses to provide social distancing and personal protective equipment. ....

Crime Stoppers welcomes new leaders

The Winona Area Crime Stoppers Annual Meeting was held this past Tuesday, February 2, at the Winona Family Restaurant.
The election of officers for the year 2021 resulted in the re-election of Wayne Valentine, of Winona, as chairman, Dean Beckman, of Winona, as treasurer, David Eckert, of Minnesota City, as secretary, and Angela Hundt, of Winona, and Walt Kelly were elected as co-vice-chairman.
The meetings were few, but crimes continue.  Several rewards were made during 2020.
Crime Stoppers is a program that involves the public, the news media, and the county law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. It provides anonymity to people reporting information and provides a reward for information that leads to the arrest and formal charging of offenders.
