Nurse fired over Facebook post about hanging Black man is suing

NORMAN A registered nurse is suing a Norman hospital for $1.2 million after being fired over a Facebook post calling for the hanging of a Black murder suspect.
Kevin Murnan, 41, had worked at Norman Regional Hospital for 19 years.
He was fired Aug. 27 after commenting on Facebook about the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old boy.
Get a big tall tree and a short piece of rope! he wrote.
Attorneys for the hospital are asking Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman to dismiss the lawsuit.
They told the judge the hospital did the right thing after Murnan chose to pen his hateful thoughts and send them out into the general public believing there could be no consequence for doing so. ....

It s been approximately six months since Cannon Hinnant was gun downed in Wilson, North Carolina. The five-year-old boy, innocent as a lamb, was shot in the head at point-blank range by Darius Sessoms. Cannon was on his bike in Sessoms front yard at the time. The boy was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. No motive for the shooting was given.
The outrage at such senseless killing of innocent life became an international story, but something that never made the news is what happened afterward. This murderous act, incomprehensible in its moral gravity and with its many witnesses as to who did it, had its defenders. ....
