Round the Island Race's 90th anniversary call out to raise '90 in 90'

Dame Ellen MacArthur is calling on Round the Island Race sailors to inspire young people to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer while celebrating the race s 90th anniversary by racing to raise 90 in 90 as her charity prepares to set sail again in 2021.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is once again the official charity of this year s Round the Island Race and you can help change hundreds of young lives by fundraising for the Trust through taking part in the race.
Young people are set to be back on the water with the Trust this year after COVID saw all their 2020 sailing and outdoor activities cancelled. And to celebrate this, and the race s 90th anniversary, the Trust is inviting entrants to raise at least £90 - either individually or as boats - by encouraging family and friends to sponsor you in this year s race. ....

Tayside brain tumour survivor Victoria gets on board Ellen MacArthur cancer trust to help other young people

A young Tayside cancer survivor will help ensure others access the recovery support they need by joining the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust’s youth board.
Victoria Sanches was first supported by the Trust in 2013 while in recovery from craniopharyngioma, a type of brain tumour.
In 2017, she became a volunteer, leading crews on sailing trips from the Largs base of the organisation founded by record-breaking yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur.

Given the devastating economic toll the COVID-19 pandemic has had on women and girls, the imperative to mark International Women’s Day carries more weight than usual this year.
The idea of a day celebrating the accomplishments of the female gender in the U.S. reaches back to 1909. Throughout the subsequent decade, the concept was embraced by countries including Austria, Denmark, Germany, Russia and Switzerland, but it wasn’t until 1975 that the first International Women’s Day was celebrated and adopted by the United Nations.
As I began identifying leaders to include on this third annual list, I was inspired by the introduction to All We Can Save, an essay and poem collection co-edited by marine biologist Ayana Elizabeth Johnson (who you can find on this year’s list) and Katharine Wilkinson (who we recognized on the first Badass Women list in 2019). ....

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and Musto will celebrate an incredible 20 years of support after agreeing to extend their long-standing partnership to the end of 2025.
Musto have been the official clothing supplier since the Trust was launched in 2003 having kitted out Dame Ellen MacArthur during her history-making round the world sailing career. Through sailing and outdoor activity, the Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer.
Every year Musto supplies young people, volunteers and skippers on the Trust s trips with essential sailing and sun-protective gear, including UPF 50 long-sleeved t-shirts, caps, waterproofs and salopettes, meaning they can focus fully on fun knowing they will be sun safe and dry.
