“We believe in active management and absolutely insist our managers engage with companies as well,” Lander said.
“We will see what proxy advisers are saying and what the managers are saying, and if there’s a disconnect that’s when we’ll look into a particular issue.
“It’s not a tick-a-box system and we don’t just get a list from proxy advisers and vote that way, there’s a lot more thought put into it.
“It’s far more efficient to use proxy firms – it’s efficient for the companies and it’s efficient for the funds.”

“From my perspective, we’re always trying to ensure members have reasonable expectations and a long-term view of what they need from their super or their retirement savings,” Graham said.
“Twelve months ago, we were having a very different conversation with very weak returns, so we’ve seen a very strong rebound and a strong return for members in the last financial year.
“But that long-term view and making sure people are attached to what they need on a long-term basis will try to ensure they don’t have too high an expectation after a strong year – or too negative of an expectation after a weaker year – because both can be quite damaging.” ....

A group of chief investment officers collectively managing $620 billion of superannuation savings warn policymakers are overreaching with proposed rules that could hand the government the power to block major investments by the funds.
