The automatic bollards, which closed the street during school hours for the safe crossing of Dandenong High School students, have been replaced after being plagued by costly breakdowns. As a temporary measure, Greater Dandenong Council has installed “robust” manual bollards which will be raised and lowered every school day by council workers. Engineering director Paul Kearsley said the automatic bollards had suffered from “water infiltration into their operating mechanism, deep below the surface structure”. The manual bollards were a “short to medium term” solution. “Our traffic engineers are currently exploring alternative options for the long-term, and will involve the school and local community in the process. ....
