UNC eyes new names for 3 buildings tied to white supremacy

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) The University of North Carolina is eying new names for three buildings on its flagship Chapel Hill campus named for people with white supremacist and racist ties.
The News & Observer reports that an advisory committee met Thursday to discuss potential names. The committee will select a list of names for the university s chancellor to consider recommending to the board of trustees.
In March, Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz asked the community to submit ideas for renaming Aycock Residence Hall, the Daniels Building and the Carr Building. Friday was the deadline for online submissions.
Learning First Charter Public School moving to the former home of Saint Mary’s School in Worcester

The classrooms and hallway of St. Mary’s Schools, which closed last June, will soon be filled will students again.
Learning First Charter Public School announced on Monday that it will be relocating from 51 Gage St. in Worcester to the former home of Saint Mary’s Schools at 50 Richland St.
The school and its 670 students from kindergarten through eighth grade will begin classes at their new home in the fall. The move coincides with Learning First Charter Public’s 25th anniversary.

WORCESTER Learning First Charter Public School on Gage Street for most of its 25 years will move to the former St. Mary s Schools building on Richland Street.
Learning First, which has about 670 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, announced Monday that it had purchased the main building of St. Mary s, 50 Richland St.
St. Mary s closed last year, amid declining enrollment, and last week the Diocese of Worcester sold the property for $2.45 million.
The buyer was CIG The Daniels Building, a limited liability company based on Shrewsbury Street. Its president is Jeffrey E. Cunningham, according to state records.
